Texas A&M junior defensive back Derrick Tucker announced Tuesday on Twitter that he will opt out of the 2020 season, citing support of Black Lives Matter. "There is a lot going on in the world and in my life right now," Tucker said in the tweet. "I want to do my part, when it comes to making a difference and taking initiative in one's personal health. I have chosen to sit out this season in support to BLM. If 2020 has taught me anything so far, it is that life is bigger than football. We can't keep pushing past the fact that there is so much injustice in our world." Tucker is the second Aggie in as many days to opt out of the season with cornerback Elijah Blades announcing he will sit out Monday. Quarterback James Foster also will not play in 2020. Both Blades and Foster did not give a specific reason for sitting out the season. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

Marshall football is 45 days away from its scheduled season opener with East Carolina on Aug. 29. If that game does indeed take place as planned, the Thundering Herd will take the field with a new starting quarterback. On Wednesday, Marshall's athletic department confirmed that quarterback Isaiah Green has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The department said it would have no further comment on Green's departure. Green exits the program after two years as the starting quarterback. During his two seasons, Green played in 23 games, starting 22 of them. Marshall posted a 15-8 record in games in which Green appeared. Green threw for 4,897 yards with 30 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in thohse 23 games. He had a 56.5 completion percentage (376 for 666). While Green started every game last year, consistency issues down the stretch of the 2019 season were costly as he failed to complete 50 percent of his passes in each of his last three games. - Charleston Gazette

2019 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Chris Rowland (WR/RS), Tennessee State,...Despite being limited in one and a half games in November due to injury, Rowland ranked first nationally in total receiving yards (1,437) and receiving yards/game (119.8), second in all-purpose yards (175.83 yards/game), third in receptions/game (8.7) and 22nd in kickoff returns (25.0 yards/return). Rowland missed the second half of the Eastern Illinois game on November 9 and was unable to play wide receiver in the following game against UT Martin, although he did perform his normal role and hold on field goal attempts. Had he not participated in that game (where he did not play offense and recorded zero all-purpose yards) he would have led the FCS in receptions/game.

Named first-team All-OVC as both a wide receiver and return specialist, Rowland became just the second player in OVC history to catch 100 passes in a season (joining Eastern Illinois All-American Erik Lora who accomplished the feat in 2012 and 2013). As a return specialist he is one of just two FCS players to return both a kick return and a punt return for a touchdown this season. His kickoff return score went for 96 yards against Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis while his punt return score came in the first half against Eastern Illinois, as it went for 57 yards. Rowland was the only Division I player (FBS or FCS) to score a touchdown via kick return, punt return, reception and rushing in 2019. He had six games with 200-plus all-purpose yards during the season, including a season-high 267 against Jackson State. - Ohio Valley Football

Chris Rowland had 148 receiving yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions and Tennessee State rallied to shock Tennessee Tech 37-27 on Saturday. Tennessee State (3-9, 2-6 Ohio Valley Conference) overcame first-half deficits of 20-0 and 27-10 and used the final quarters to stage the comeback. Down 17 at the half, Te'kendrick Roberson ran it in from 14 yards to complete an 11-play, 81-yard drive to start the third quarter. The two-point conversion failed. Later, Rowland threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Rosendahl and reduced the deficit to 27-23. More than midway through the fourth, DeMarco Corbin made it 30-27 after his 3-yard TD run. On the Golden Eagles' next drive, Seth Rowland got free and blocked Luke Maynard's punt that Jordan Bell recovered in the end zone with 4:44 left. The Tigers entered with three straight defeats and had been beaten in nine of their last 10 games. It's the second straight year the Tigers have beaten Tennessee Tech (6-6, 3-5).   Miguel Mendez kicked a 45-yard field goal in overtime and Grambling handed Alcorn State its first Southwestern Athletic Conference loss 19-16 on Saturday. After Mendez's field goal, the Braves (6-3, 4-1) drove to the 11, but got backed up to the 16 after a false start penalty on third-and-8. Corey McCullough missed a 33-yard field goal attempt that would have sent the game to second overtime.
